About

This blog is a conglomeration of thoughts, meditations, confessions, and ramblings from a confessing Christian with reformed persuasions and convictions. My name is Danny, and I am an M.DIV student at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO studying, training, and preparing for pastoral ministry.

What does it mean to be Reformed?

Reformed theology rightly puts the focus where it should be, namely, on the grace and glory of God through the cross of Jesus Christ. Historically, the word “reformed” was a direct reference, written by a Lutheran, to explain the ecclesiology of Calvin’s Institutes. In other words, being Reformed meant:

  • Covenant Theology
  • Paedobaptism
  • Following Calvin’s view of the Lord’s Supper

The word “reformed” has become a bit of a misnomer since then, and today it is only used in a soteriological sense in most circles (though I joyfully link arms with my Reformed Baptist brothers even though we may differ on such issues as the valid recipients of baptism). So, when I say that I am of the Reformed persuasion, I take the word in its original intent. That is to say, I embrace and espouse Covenant Theology, Paedobaptism, the five Solas of the Reformation, the Doctrines of Grace (a.k.a. “The Five Points of Calvinism”), etc.

A more detailed explanation of my beliefs can be found here, here, and here, as well as in the Three Forms of Unity (here, here, and here).

About this blog

In this blog I will focus primarily on the following categories:

  • A Call to the Unconverted - Questions to provoke the minds and thoughts of those who are opposed to Christianity or who are searching or seeking.
  • Apologia - The use of presuppositional apologetics as a proof, offense, and defense of the Christian faith.
  • Hard Sayings of the Bible - Short expositions on passages that seem puzzling or hard to swallow or grasp.
  • Koine in Color - Examining words and verses in the New Testament through the use of Koine Greek. Koine Greek is to English what HDTV is to black and white television.
  • Puritan Pensées - Meditations and reflections from the Puritans.
  • Rightly Divided Dogmatics - Short meditations and precise expositions on Scripture passages.
  • The 21st Century Church - Thoughts and opinions concerning the nature of today’s church.

What does “εξο της παρεμβολης” (exo tays parembolays) mean?
It is the Koine Greek phrase for “outside the camp” found in Hebrews 13:13- So, let us go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach (NASB). The writer of Hebrews urges the Hebrew Christians to leave behind their old practices and sinful way of living and follow Christ regardless of the cost and reproach it will bring.
